Down Under Classic: Calm before the Crit

On the eve of the Down Under Classic, Whitey and his argyle crew checked in to let all you great fans know that they are ready and raring to get the Garmin-Slipstream show on the road.
DS Matt “Whitey” White: Bring on the Appetizer
“The team has had a great week training down here in [...]
Packing for OZ: Blackberry, red gum & hot sauce

Packing for a month and a half in a different hemisphere seemed like a daunting way to start my season last week. But after 10 months of no racing, I was actually excited to lug out the suitcase and get ready to hit the road. I didn’t really pack until the day I left [...]
‘Raisin’ hope with Saul
This month my father and I traveled to Dalton, Georgia, to join my friend and former teammate Saul Raisin (pictured right with me) for his annual Raisin Hope Ride to benefit brain injury treatment and awareness. The ride was a nice way for me to start getting back into training while taking in a lot [...]
Duggan and Pate ride 600 miles for Challenged Athletes Foundation
Timmy Duggan (above) and Danny Pate will finish up their 600-mile, seven day tour today in San Diego as they raise money and awareness for the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Timmy and Danny, along with other members of the Argyle staff, were brought in to the event by lead sponsor Jeff Jacobs, who is also a [...]
Setting the tone and taking names
As the today’s activities wrap up, Team Garmin-Chipotle has officially set the tone for the weekend by winning the US Pro national time trial championships with Dave Z and putting a total of 4 riders in the top 5. Here is a follow up the conversation Timmy (below right) and I had yesterday with a [...]
Timmy and Lucas talk US Pro

As I sit in the heat and humidity of downtown Greenville, South Carolina, I can’t help but think about the role Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O will play in cycling history over the next two days. We have proven ourselves on European soil and have been a dominant team domestically. We already have two national champions on [...]
Timmy Update: Looking forward to pinning on a number again!

I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of my recovery. I’ve had a pretty relaxed summer, although it has definitely been the most difficult period of my life up to this point. Traumatic brain injuries are so frustrating in so many ways. I never imagined how many [...]
Timmy Update: Head injury to delay return

Despite how normal I am feeling right now, my head injury is actually a little more serious. In my crash I suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, resulting now in a subdural hematoma, which is basically a big bruise on the right frontal lobe of my brain. The subdural hematoma on my brain is still a [...]
Velonews.com: Zabriskie & Duggan injured reserves
Velonews.com talks to Timmy Duggan and Dave Zabriskie about their recent injuries and their hopes for recovery and their return to racing.
Said Duggan: “I can exercise, but super easy. Any exercise, or even drinking alcohol, could cause more bleeding, because it raises your blood pressure, which could cause the clot to bleed out more. [...]
What to do with an injury?

After my high speed crash a few weeks ago at the Tour de Georgia, I am happy to say that I am at home, healthy and well. A broken collarbone, scapula, and a moderate head injury (basically a big bruise on my brain) isn’t fun but it could have been worse. I am very [...]
Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Team honors Timmy, wins TTT
AJC.com featured Slipstream/Chipotle H3O last week after their team time trial win. The article mentioned that the win was dedicated to Timmy Duggan who was recovering from a high-speed crash the day before.
[Please note: The team is incorrectly identified as being California based and a correction has been requested.]
One of those race days I’d just as soon forget
Tour de Georgia, Stage 3
That was one of those race days I’d just as soon forget. Which, fortunately, is turning out to be pretty easy to do. All I know is I woke up sometime that night in a strange bed wondering what the heck happened, where I was, and why I was so [...]
Timmy on the mend and proud of team!!
We’re happy to report that Timmy is recovering well tonight. This morning’s surgery was a success and he’s aware – and very proud – of the team’s TTT win and Trent’s yellow jersey! He will continue to rest in the hospital, and then stay in Georgia until he’s ready to fly home.
Thank you again [...]
This win’s for Timmy!
The reason I picked Timmy for this race was that he is an excellent time trialist. So when he wasn’t able to compete today, the whole team was a bit demoralized. But sometimes good things come out of bad. I think the guys really did something extra today to give Timmy a little something special [...]
Official Timmy update
Timmy Duggan was injured in a crash at the Tour de Georgia yesterday. He fractured his left clavicle and scapula and suffered a head injury. He remains in a local hospital, where his condition continues to improve, with his family at his side. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
We thank everyone for their support [...]
To suffer is the currency of racing

Sometimes its best to just not think when you’re part of the cycling world. Because when you really think about what cycling is, you realize it’s….unthinkable.
I suppose this all became real to me in 2004, when a young rider named Craig Lewis hit the side of a car, full speed, in a time trial [...]
Georgia podium finally!

Yesterday was not a nice day for our team. After Timmy’s crash, we were all feeling pretty stressed. We knew it was bad, but we didn’t know what his condition was. Thankfully he is cogniscent, though very beat up. Our thoughts are with him!
For me personally, the race went relatively well. The finishing [...]
Behind the scenes at Georgia

right: Timmy looking for his next feed.
It’s always entertaining to hear about the lengths that the Slipstream staff goes to behind the scenes to keep us on time, happy and ready to race. Our soigneur Kim was filling me in on the recent events today during my massage.
Apparently Kim and Jen, our other [...]
Timmy’s ideal sprint stage & recovery secret
Timmy (left) leading the charge with Lucas Euser
That’s how sprinter stages should be. Short and to the point.
There is nothing I hate more than doing 200 km of flat only to finish in a big bunch. So the Tour de Georgia organizers had it right today. With only 110 km of racing, we raced, [...]
Gearing up for a hot Tour de Georgia

The Georgia coast is a nice change of venue in more ways than one. Yesterday, I was relaxing on the beach for a few minutes thinking the relative heat was nice compared to what I’ve been riding in lately. I was home in Colorado recently braving the snow in training while some of my teammates [...]
Tirreno stage 4: Status quo after active start

Slipstream/Chipotle H3O worked it hard today, attempting several breaks and pushing the pace at the front of the peloton. Martijn Maaskant (left) was particularly active during a chase of a two-man break coming into Innesto.
The Argyle Armada managed to preserve Hesjedal’s and Duggan’s GC placings, setting them up well for tomorrow’s time trial. [...]
Tirreno stage 3: Will’s 20+%!@ uphill battle

Two 200 km stages later and we’ve arrived at the Adriatic. A beautiful day and once again some very controlled Italian racing. Really the very best training anybody could ask for as Classics prep with another unreal hard finish circuit.
And by unreal hard, I mean that other than the first 30 guys up [...]
Valencia final: Lowe 11th overall; Duggan 2nd in mountains
The relatively uneventful and sunny stage 5 of the 2008 Volta a Valencia resulted in no significant changes to the overall results. Slipstream/Chipotle worked as a team to protect Trent Lowe’s position overall and succeeded. Timmy Duggan maintained his second place in the overall mountains classification.
