Donald 12th on stage; Peterson into 2nd in Best Young Rider
April 17, 2007 - Rome, GA - In Stage 2 of the Tour de Georgia, Team Slipstream/Chipotle continued it’s patient approach to the week-long race, letting other teams search for glory in the long early breakaway, and protecting it’s General Classification hopes on a challenging final circuit destined for a sprint finish.
Once the peloton arrived in Rome, after enjoying sunny conditions on the long, rolling 200 km route, there were still 3 laps (15 km total) left to race through downtown Rome. The circuit in Rome features a steep climb up Clocktower Hill, and that is where the race winner made his winning move, and a small group separated slightly from the main pack.
Team Slipstream/Chipotle’s Jason Donald was in a good position going up Clocktower Hill on the final lap, and made his way into this selection - finishing in 12th place on the stage. Danny Pate and Tom Peterson were the next Slipstream/Chipotle riders across in the next big group of finishers, just 5 seconds behind.
Heading into Wednesday’s Stage 3 Donald sits in 16th overall, while Pate is in 20th overall. Tom Peterson has moved up into 2nd place in the Best Young Rider competition.

Pate 11th on stage, Peterson 3rd in Best Young Rider competition
April 16, 2007 - Macon, GA - April 16, Macon, GA - Team Slipstream powered by Chipotle took the conservative approach to Stage 1’s typical progression of events at the Tour de Georgia. Realizing that the peloton would be anxious for a sprint finish on one of the Tour’s flatter routes, the team declined to place anyone in the day’s major breakaway and instead enjoyed a comfortable (fast! - 46.5 km/h average speed thanks to a hefty tailwind) ride from Peachtree City to Macon.
The peloton is usually a keen judge of just how to time the catching of the breakaway prior to the finish line. In today’s stage, however, the miscommunication of time gaps, and maybe the wind, benefitted the breakaway. Late in the race the time gap was still six, then five, four, three minutes. Team Slipstream/Chipotle sent several riders to the front to help Discovery Channel and CSC chase, but it was not to be.
By the time the race reached the finished circuits around downtown Macon, the breakaway still enjoyed a one minute lead. They would not be caught. Three of the five original breakaway members finished ahead of the hard-charging peloton. In the group sprint, Team Slipstream/Chipotle did a fine job of keeping team leader Danny Pate well-positioned, and he came across the line in 11th place. Tom Peterson rolled through 30th, starting him out in 3rd place in the Best Young Rider competition.

April 13, 2007 - Boulder, CO - Team Slipstream powered by Chipotle has released their final roster for the upcoming Tour de Georgia April 16-22. The team will feature a roster of climbing and time trial specialists: Danny Pate, Tom Peterson, Jason Donald, Pat McCarty, Lucas Euser, Timmy Duggan, Mike Lange, and Craig Lewis.
According to Director Jonathan Vaughters, “the team will be working for Tom Peterson as far as the GC is concerned. He’s been producing around 400 watts at his 30min max power, so that should have him climbing with the leaders. Its a big step up from where he was at California. Of course we’ll also be hoping for a stage win from either Jason Donald or Pat McCarty - and I imagine Lucas (Euser) will try to snag the Mountains jersey again.”
