Junior world time trial champion Taylor Phinney didn’t disappoint the enthusiastic Swiss fans yesterday during the scenic stage 3 individual time trial of the Tour de Pay du Vaud. Taylor put in a magnificent ride on the 8.9 km time trial course that skirted the Sarine River from Rougemont to Chateau-d’Oex.

As the shortest non-time trial stage, today’s 146 km course was relatively uneventful and predictable. A breakaway went early and was eventually caught before the finish. A dozen riders participated in the bunch sprint with most of the peloton finishing just a few seconds behind.

Today’s individual time trial - though short at 12.85 km - goes straight up for 1080 meters of climbing with an average grade of 7.9%. The last 5.25 km of the climb are on a gravel road that tops out at 24% grade!
