Andrew Talansky posted the first win of the 2013 season and in impressive fashion. Sports director Geert Van Bondt sent this report.
Andrew and the team did a fantastic job today and met our objective of getting Andrew in a good position going into the final climb.
We knew he had to be up front going in, and that he had to take the decent in a top 10 position, which he did. He then he made the split at the bottom of 7 riders, executing perfectly.
Andrew and the team fought hard for today’s stage, it was an impressive team victory and victory for Andrew, who cleared the final meters perfectly, outsprinting a strong group after a long day.
Taking the leader’s jersey was a great bonus, we’re happy and proud and looking forward to the coming stages.
Talansky: The team was incredible, just as they have been the past couple days. Keeping me up front and out of trouble, making my life easy. It felt great to come through to pay the guys back for all of their hard work.
We knew there was a chance of it splitting on the descent, especially in the rain, so the plan was for me to be up front to start the descent and everything just clicked.
It was a great day personally but I would say more so for the team as a whole, everyone did their job to perfection.
