Report: Le Mével takes fourth at San Sebastian

Christophe Le Mével posted a strong result in the Spanish Classic, heading into the final Grand Tour, La Vuelta a España. Director Sportif Bingen Fernandez sent this report.

Nice and hot weather in San Sebastian, which means a lot of humidity for the riders.
As usual a fast start was on the menu for the Clasica San Sebastian.

After 45 km a two rider break formed. It wasn’t easy to make a breakaway today! When they had 11 minutes katucha started chasing and FDJ helped them doing the work.

The first time they passed Jaizkibel Omega and then Movistar acelerated to make it a hard day and the peloton was reduced into a small group where we had three: Dan, Christophe and Andrew.

The second time of Jaizkibel the group was even smaller and we still had those 3 guys in the main group.

In the climb of Arkale (15km to the finish) Dan was in a small group of 12 with all the favorites. In the flat section of the finale the group was reformed again and after many attacks Luis Leon Sanchez went solo keeping the gap and winning the race.

Then in the sprint of the chasing group Christhope Le Mevel finished fourth almost touching the podium of the Classic.

The team was great having those three guys in the main group for the finale.

Le Mével said his result is an indication he is coming into good form for the Vuelta.

“It was good race for me just two days after Tour de L’Ain! I know I am good condition before the Vuelta and San Sebastian is very good tes of that. I came fourth in the sprint behind Sanchez and I’m so happy to be in the top five.”

“I had a good sprint here and now I can be confident going forward.”
