Jack Bobridge rode strong in the breakaway, finishing fourth on the stage and moving up the GC to fourth — as well as leading in the best young rider’s competition. Johnny Weltz has the report:

With everything at status quo after the prologue and a leader who wouldn’t make it in the front on a mountain-top finish, the race was wide open.
After 6km four riders attacked and among them was Jack. They quickly gained 10 minutes then the leader’s team worked, but they still gained a gap up to 13 minutes so several teams started to work.
But as all the riders up front were very strong it wasn’t easy to bring it down. Over the top of the first category climb with 20 km to go it was still 4:30.
The rain started and the front group split into two so jack was at 40 seconds when they started the final climb into the finish. He managed to do a last big effort and keep the chasing field from catching him and the three in the breakaway at a short distance.
He was fourth got the young rider’s jersey and has a very good chance on the GC. In next group we where very well presented with Tommy D, Talansky and Stetina .
