Another whole-team effort resulted in the set-up of Tyler Farrar for another field sprint finish. And while a crash in the final meters disrupted his sprint, he still managed to take a strong second. Director sportif Johnny Weltz sent this report:
Leaving Andorra and heading down hill was the start of today’s stage. As such it was fast from start and we didn’t have any intention of being in a break away as the stage was perfect for Tyler.
So when a group of six riders were later joined by another three and got three minutes we started to chase. Most of the work was Tom Peterson who rode very strong all day.
With 25 km to go it was caught and we had a plan to move the race in the crosswinds towards the end to shake up the GC.
Our guys attacked with 20 km to go but unfortunately the wind wasn’t in the ideal angle to create the effect we wanted.
But it did give Tyler the chance to get the sprint position he needed. Unfortunately in the last curve with 250 metres to go they almost crashed so he didn’t get the ideal run in, but still managed a strong second!
Another strong team effort all day.
