Team Garmin-Transitions’ captain David Millar capped off a great day for the Argyle Armada with a convincing time trial win in the Three Days of De Panne. This gave him the overall win as well, while teammate Svein Tuft also placed on the podium in third. This followed a sprint win earlier in the day by Tyler Farrar, giving the team three wins on one day! Millar recounts his win:
“It’s been a long time since I’ve won a stage race!” Millar told Belgian TV. “Twelve years ago I was standing here as a twenty-one year-old naive kid, and now I am a thirty-three year-old battled veteran. But you get better with age!”
“I came here with the objective of winning the overall. But this is a hard race to win the overall — you can’t just focus on the time trial, you have be good on the road too. To win the race on the road was great.”
Millar also commented on the rough Belgian weather conditions over the previous two days.
“It was made even harder by the epic conditions. I’ve always done better in bad weather.”
“When you are feeling good the weather is not a problem. I think I proved to myself I can race on the roads and not just the time trial.”
“I can’t thank the team enough for all of their help over three brutal days. Congrats to Tyler on his first victory and to Svein who rode an incredible TT.”
Team director Matt White was beaming with pride after Millar’s ride.
“I’m really proud of how the team performed today and over the last three days,” said White. “We accomplished everything we came here to accomplish — a stage win for Tyler and the overall for Millar.”
