Team Garmin-Transitions starts its third stage of Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy. Director sportif Matt White reports on a fast stage before two decisive days in the mountains:
Today was a typical day in Tirreno — a very fast start with eventually a group of three slipping clear after 30km.
The race went to pieces on the last set of climbs. In the end a dangerous group slipped away on the wet and twisty descent. Johan and Ryder helped in the chase and at 2 km to go a large group formed to contest the final sprint. Liquigas delivered a super lead for Bennati and with a downhill finish nobody could even pass, and Tyler finished in fourth place.
Now we have two big days in the mountains where the GC will be sorted out. Our hopes lie with Captain Canada and I’m quietly confident Ryder will deliver for the third year in a row.
