Director’s report from Johnny Weltz:
A long day started out with a 7:30 a.m. bus transfer to the airport and an hour flight to an airport 128 km away from the start town. We finally got there with the start delayed an hour.
But still right from the start there was an attack, as six riders broke free and the leader’s team gave them too long a line. They had to work very hard to get them back into a manageable distance. So with 30 km to go in the cross-wind with the leader sitting too far back in the field, the bunch split and his whole team had to try to chase back which never happened.
A group of 35 riders took off and caught the breakaway group of six so there was a front group of 41 riders with four from us — Tyler, Cam, Murilio and Hunter. The group gained a minute an they where never caught. The sprint looked good for Tyler, but he didn’t feel all that well today — tired from a lot of sprinting. He finished fifth to conserve his second spot on GC and gained the green jersey outright — a very nice day of racing! Strong performances by the team who now have Cam in play for the GC as well as Tyler.
