Tour of Qatar, stage 3

Director’s report from Johnny Weltz:

Today was a very fast start, but with a few serious attacks ending up with three riders who got a minute-and-a-half. But as we turned in to another cross-wind section they where back in the bunch again at 25 km.

The first bonus sprint was after 53 km and as the GC is still tight the sprint for the bonus seconds was intense. Unfortunately not long after the sprint, going high speed, Kirk hit a ‘cateye’ in the road and crashed hard. He was taken to hospital for x-ray on his shoulder.

The race stayed together to 65 km where two riders broke clear and stayed away until 110 km. That is when we brought it back, and from there to the finish we had control of the race. Tyler was delivered perfect to Boonen’s wheel but a crash at 300 meters to go ruined his chance to compete for the win, as he had to brake. Boonen won but Tyler still finished ninth.

    Hello to Felt/Garmin:

    Great going so far across the Atlantic, i hope you can
    get Bobridge into the plans for the Spring classics, he seems to possess and great deal of speed for a long
    breakaway, and possible win——->
