Director’s report from Johnny Weltz:
Another hard mountain day today, and we are down to only four riders — but we are still very motivated. Martijn was on the spot when the first attack went, a group of 16 riders gaining up to a minute, but not any more as several teams didn’t have anyone in there. After 25 km more it was all back together.
Dan attacked and got away with two others, and after some chasing they made the gap. It then climbed to seven minutes before the teams started to keep it in that range. Then because one of the GC riders was suffering the field started to attack hard again over the moutain so the break never got enough of a gap to get to the top of the last climb, which would have made it last to the finish.
But a good day for Dan, on another rainy and cold day.
