In a super-fast stage (31 mph average speed!) Team Garmin-Slipstream successfully defended the race lead of David Zabriskie, after the U.S. national time trial champion took over the honor by winning the stage 5 time trial. The team has only one more stage left, a circuit race around Kansas City before closing the book on the Tour of Missouri.
“It was a day of relentless attacks,” said Zabriskie. “It was fast from the start, with lots of wind on the course. Every team was riding hard. All in all, a great day of racing. The team was incredible and did exactly what we needed to do. I’m proud to be in the leader’s jersey in Garmin’s home state, defending the title that Christian won last year. And I’m proud of the job this team today, they were amazing.”
