Weltz: "An Amazing Win" – Vuelta a Espana, stage 11

Director’s report from Johnny Weltz:

Today was a day where many things could happen — or get blocked if a group went up the road that was not strong enough.

Svein Tuft - Vuelta a Espana, stage 11

It was a very fast start with attacking right and left. Ryder and Dan were in the breaks but none went away, until we hit the first climb, a second category. There a real strong group went but only three riders were in it and all not far back on the GC. So with the very hard terrain the field could control it.

Ryder Hesjedal - Vuelta a Espana, stage 11

For us it was a good situation as Tyler is climbing better than ever and the tempo on the climbs suited him well. With several teams riding on the front towards the last climb, a second category, it worked out as we wanted with Tyler getting over it not to far back. He chased back on the decent and with 25km to go Tyler was well placed in the front group. He had a big boost from David Millar to help him in the finale, so after a very fast run in to the finish Dave showed up on the last meters with Tyler on his wheel!

Tyler took over and finished the job for an amazing win!

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Eric

Congratulations Tyler. Like these people have said, it has been a long time coming. A 2nd place finish yesterday and a 1st place today. You’re definately one of the best sprinters out in the field and believe me, you will beat Cavendish in a sprint a couple more times.

  • Greg

    Awesome win.
Tyler should get some aerodynamic positioning work done. If he can adjust his sprint position ever so slightly while not reducing power he can beat cav, who sprints very, very low on the bike. Even a miniscule reduction in drag would make a difference at 70 kph.
    again, kudos

As I said yesterday, “one more before this ends”. I didn’t expect it would be next day. Congratulations Garmin.

Brilliant lead out by David Millar so that Tyler almost coasted over the line. Let the flood gates open! More wins to come in this Veulta from Garmin.

“Argyle attacks” great to see a multi skilled team doing a sensational job for their mates. Great smart ride Tyler.
I don’t know what made me smile more, watching my 5 year old jumping up and down screaming ‘GO TYLER’ or him getting the win.

Good god, man, that was the longest sprint we’ve seen in awhile, eh. Funny watching Gilbert come off your wheel to come around and then ducking right back in when he realized there was no coming around you. Awesome! You could stop now and be through with a great season but a fall classic win would finish it off even better. Can’t wait.
