Race Report from Ryder Hesjedal:
So close! After two hard days of trying to get in the break and not succeeding I was on a mission today!
The last two days were hard on the peleton with some 12+ hours in the saddle and over 27,000 feet of climbing done! I felt today’s break was going to make it to the finish. This was on many riders minds I think as the attacks were many and strong after a 40 minute neutral warm up!! I was where I needed to be as a solid group formed and I was confident I could arrive in the final.
The day went perfect and I was happy to be in the small selection over the hard climb and fast dangerous decent. It was a solid 4 man group and to be in it for a chance at the victory was exciting.
I am a little disappointed to come so close — now I can relate with Tyler and David! Lame! haha… — but I am very excited with my condition at this point of the race. The team has performed as one the best in the world here and we will continue to fight through the second-half!!
