Director’s report from Johnny Weltz:
Today was a really warm day, (39 degrees C!) and it was hard on people. We had a breakaway group going from start with four riders. After gaining some six minutes the race leader’s team took up the chase — but we didn’t want to take part of it today.
The chase was on all day and with 30km to go the break was back — a bit early so the attacks started again. It was a hard last lap with a lot of small climbs that put the bunch under pressure. Our guy’s managed to keep and eye on things and get it together for Tyler for a bunch sprint. Julian delivered Tyler perfect with 200 metres to go, just when the eventual stage winner jumped and gained just a few inches — enough to keep Tyler away for winning his first Vuelta stage. But a super job by Tyler who just seems to do better and better!
