Team Garmin-Slipstream concluded its Tour de France, finishing all of the starting nine riders. In the end it was five of the Argyle Armada on the front working for Tyler Farrar, including Christian Vande Velde and David Millar — but a tight final turn at 250 meters opened up an unclose-able gap.
“We went to the front but it was a little too early for the number of guys we had and Julian was left in the wind with 800 meters to go,” Farrar told Versus. “Then Bennati took me off Cav’s wheel in the final turn and by the time we came out it was too much.
“I got through it which was a goal. I had a lot of top fives, but I would have liked to have won a stage. Yeah I am one of the top sprinters in the world but it is still frustrating coming second or third.”
Bradley Wiggins also capped off an impressive Tour with fourth place overall and Christian Vande Velde completed the strong results with eighth overall — just two months after fracturing five vertebrae, his pelvis and a rib in a crash.
