Team Garmin-Slipstream spent the majority of Wednesday’s fifth stage on the front, putting in heaps of work setting the pace to chase down the six-man breakaway. But in the end the break survived just long enough to have a solo winner. Sprinter Tyler Farrar contested the field sprint for the remaining spots, coming in a close fourth place.
