Director’s report from Johnny Weltz:
Stage 4 took us from the start up a 30 kilometer-long climb, the Gotthard Pass — a tough climb with the last 10 km on cobble stones. After 10km a big group took off and we had Huub Duyn in there. As several good riders were in the group, right away they where only allowed a short leash.
The chase was on all day and the group in the front got smaller during the day. On the last of the two second category climbs it split into two and Huub missed out on the move and got caught in the second half of the group who later got caught from behind by the field. Nine riders up the front made it to the finish with a gap of one minute.
Behind in the peloton we had our two GC guys who have a big day tomorrow with a first category climb up to the finish and Christian Vande Velde who seems to be getting over his crash from yesterday ok! He wasn’t in difficulty at any time. Cam Meyer and Will Frischkorn were in there as well.
