Frischkorn in the Break – Tour de Suisse, stage 3
Director’s report from Johnny Weltz:
Today was to be a long day with a mountain pass in the middle up to 2000 meters. A course that was made for a breakaway, intended to go in the beginning. So it did and Will Frischkorn got away with his buddy from last year’s Tour de France, Samuel Dumoulin, along with two other guys.
They built up a gap to five-and-a-half minutes. At the top of the mountain the field started a stronger chase. But at the first tunnel on the descent there was a big crash which involved Ryder Hesjedal, Martijn Maaskant and Christian Vande Velde. It held up the chase for a bit but it came back together and the hard chase continued .
With nine kilometers to go it was over. Then Ryder attacked wisely in a roundabout and took a lot people by surprise but it didn’t last. So it ended in a bunch sprint with Chris Sutton in 14th spot.

Good try Ryder too bad! Only had one and a half km to go! Keep trying for it and it’ll work out!
Well I don’t see and DNF’s so I am glad everyone made it through the crash ok. Good luck tomorrow and the rubber side down!
Keep up the good work guys. I am praying, chanting, and doing tribal dances to keep the crash demons away from VDV. Give the guy a break already!
Love to see the aggression. I hope this is an indication of what we can expect at the TDF.
I hope everyone is OK from the crash. Probably good to get that over with for Christian, as long as everyone comes out OK.
Any word on how Christian feels post-crash? The guy is recovering from a big one last month – would appreciate a update on our favorite racer.
I am bringing my WVU kit to France. Hope to see Will riding.
