Mount Vesuvius stage lives up to hype – Giro, stage 19

Team Garmin-Slipstream’s ascent of Mount Vesuvius was led by the consistent climbing Tom Danielson who finished just 3:35 behind the stage winner.

“I just wanted to ride a good pace up the last climb and build my fitness. It was a really crazy stage with a very dangerous run-in to the climb. Cobbles, cars, dogs, holes, and people running into the road made for a very scary approach to the line.”

“I paced myself up the climb and caught up to the group with Rogers and Cunego with about 7km to go. I rode within myself all the way to the top. Every day in this race has been very demanding so I am happy to be feeling better and better.”
