Sutton second in Tour of Bavaria opener
Stage report from Chris Sutton
Well it was a good day! My legs weren’t too good at the start, which is normal. My last race was Roubaix! But the boys were awesome leading me into the finish.
It was a fast start in the beginning. A group of 10 riders were off the front and we had Ricardo and Kilian present which was good. Euskatel chased it back and two riders went clear after another 15km. Then the bunch stopped chasing. We cruised from there until it got super fast towards the end.
I told the boys with 50km to go I was feeling better so they looked after me and made sure I was near the front with 2km to go. There was a little hill that we went up three times on the finish circuit so Hans took over the job and put me in top 10. I went around the outside then found myself on Andre Greipel’s wheel.. He was too strong in the sprint and I couldn’t get around him.
Another second… happy but I will try again!
