Team Garmin-Slipstream’s Bradley Wiggins rode an impressive time trial on stage 12 of the Giro d’Italia, finishing seventh on the mountainous 60.6km course.
“It was a challenging course,” said Wiggins. “The terrain wasn’t ideally suited to me but I am pleased with my performance. Top ten is pretty good.”
Race report from David Millar
I was one of the only, if not the only, to ride a TT bike today. Originally I wanted to switch it out at the 40k mark, but I was feeling good so I kept going to the second climb. I was testing some equipment, the first being the Shimano electronic shifters. I’ve never used them in a TT before and they worked really well. It was great because I was able to change gears and remain in position.
The second thing was that Garmin Italy had pre-mapped the course onto our computers.
I relied on that to get me through the descent. I was able to get through the blind corners at full speed because I knew where I was going. That was hugely beneficial today.
I was really pleased with my performance. I’ve spent a month off the bike after my surgery, so I hope this means good things for the Dauphine and Tour!
