Universal Sports, Garmin and Slipstream Sports creat Giro d'Italia's first-ever online RaceTracker

racetrackerblogIt is the centennial of the Giro d’Italia and for the first time in 100 years, fans will be able to follow each stage live online and on television. Universal Sports and UniversalSports.com present live and same-day coverage of the Giro d’Italia. For passionate cycling fans, Garmin, Slipstream Sports and Universal Sports have teamed up to create the RaceTracker, an application that provides viewers with broadcast-quality live video, commentary, stage profiles, key stats and real-time GPS race tracking.

The RaceTracker, available at www.universalsports.com and www.slipstreamsports.com, features live video feeds from the race, play-by-play updates from Cyclingnews.com, GPS tracking of the race from the Garmin-Slipstream Team Car and an interactive chat room for viewers to connect with other fans while watching.

“The 100th Anniversary of the Giro is a spectacular event,” said President and COO Carlos Silva. “Now viewers can enjoy an interactive and immersive experience live from their computers. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for cycling fans.”

RaceTracker is available on a pay-per-view basis for $3.95 per day, or viewers can opt for the full race package at $34.95. Coverage begins each day at 8:30 a.m., continuing until 12 p.m. ET.

“As the global leader in satellite navigation, we are thrilled to be able bring this majestic race to fans around the world,” said Jon Cassat, Garmin’s vice president of communications. “Just like Team Garmin uses top-tier technology to track their daily data, RaceTracker now helps fans everywhere track the entire event.”
