Fangyle: Giro, stage 1

Argyle fans Jenni James and her husband sent this dispatch from stage 1 of the Giro d’Italia.

Venezia – Stage 1: Sicily to Venice to see a little Red, White & Blue

dsc_0116We arrived on Wednesday from Sicily to hang out and relax, but the real focus of the trip was to catch a glimpse of the Giro d’Italia and Garmin-Slipstream. To see our favorite team once again race on Italian soil. We noticed signs saying there would be a presentation at 3:00 p.m, in the San Marco Square.

After lunch… my husband and I changed into our argyle shirts and socks and I happened to even have argyle print on my shoes! At San Marco and through the spacing of the barriers I saw teams lining up on the other side and I thought, “could this be the presentation of all the riders?” AND THEN IT HAPPENED! My husband directed me over to the far side of the stage and all in the open and putting on their team gear was GARMIN!

AND THEN I saw him… DZ!. AND this was followed by the moment when I became the character Mel from “Flight of the Concords.” I barged into a conversation DZ was having with a friend and said, “DZ… you freakin’ rock! — Jenni James from Sicily.”

Then I thought to myself who the heck says that? I took two more pictures and slowly shuffled my way back into the Italian crowds while reflecting.

I continued to show my Garmin pride the rest of the weekend and enjoyed the truly spectacular event of Stage 1 on the Lido. Though a little star struck earlier in the week… what Garmin truly represented to me was a piece of home on Italian soil and they even brought with them a little red, white and blue!

Keep up the hard work,
Jenni James
