Tour de Romandie: Director's report

Director’s report from Johnny Weltz

For the last stage of Romandie today there were two options — a breakaway goes from the beginning or a bunch sprint. We stood planning for the last one. With a really flying Tyler it was easy to agree on that tactic.

Killian Patour lifts the pace on the climb to shed the other teams’ sprinters

Killian Patour - Tour de Romandie, stage 5 So after a few attacks two riders took off but had no danger for the stage or our tactic. We had a category 2 and category 1 mountain today in the middle of the stage. As Tyler has been climbing better than Cavendish the team set a pace that was just hard enough to keep Tyler in and to get rid of some other sprinters.

Over the top the front group had 30 seconds over the Cavendish group , so a long pursuit started towards the finish where his team was chasing our team. In the end they cracked and the final was open to a sprint finish between Tyler and former world champ Oscar Friere. It was a long and fast sprint and Freire was the winner just ahead of Tyler. But this was a Tyler who seems more solid every time. He just needed that little bit of luck!

Ricardo Van der Velde - Tour de Romandie, stage 5

All and all a very good week in Switzerland where a cold and raining day destroyed our climbers legs so they didn’t get the benefit they would normally would have in a type of race like this, which eliminated us for the GC.
