Team Garmin-Slipstream’s Ryder Hesjedal continued to build on an impressive spring campaign in the Classic Amstel Gold. The Canadian made it into one of the main breakaways of the day and still managed to finish strong.
“Today went well for me personally,” he said after the race. “I felt good all day even working my way into a strong break of 18 later in the race. I tried to keep it alive a bit too much as the chase from behind was charging hard and giving no leash to the attackers.”
“At the end of the day I should have saved more for the end as I was just lacking that little extra punch to follow the front runners. But I was steady to the finish after losing contact with the leaders and was happy to get a solid 260kms in the legs!”
“I am looking forward to the rest of the week after today as I think I am more suited to the remaining two Ardennes Classics!”
