Farrar outsprints field in Tirreno-Adriatico stage 3!!!

FarrarWins_Tirreno3.JPG

Team Garmin-Slipstream’s Tyler Farrar grabbed the right wheels in the conclusion of today’s stage, passing the lead-out trains in the final 100 meters to take an impressive field sprint win against some of the other top sprinters in the world.

“The boys were great today!” said Farrar. “First Will slipped into the break of the day and then the guys did a good job taking care of me in the last hour. Julien and Mike helped me stay close to the front the last 30 km and then Martijn threw down a crazy pull to put me on the lead-out trains with 4 km to go and in the end it all came together! The teams had a great week, and I’m sure its just a taste of what’s to come!”

The entire stage was a strong showing for the Garmin-Slipstream squad, as Will Frischkorn escaped with two other riders in the opening kilometers. The trio built a large lead and stayed away until just 10 kilometers to go.

Race report from DS Matt White
Well it has been a big win for team Garmin. With VDV grabbing the biggest solo win of his carrear only days ago ! The tide has already been turning for us in ’09.

We told the boys at the end of last season that this was the year to turn all the great rides that were close calls into wins. Success breeds success and I hope that every one on the team really can see that it is possible . Especially for the young guys who might have doubted themselves . Doubt no longer , when they look around and see the likes of Tom Peterson and Tyler winning against the best riders on the planet. The time to step up is NOW.

What more can I say except superb ! Not many riders can come off Cav in the last 50m . Martijn ,JD and Meatball did a super effort in the final delivering Tyler in a great position and then he finished it off with class. Hats off also to Will today who put in a guts ride that was away all day only getting caught in the last 10km.

Tomorrow is a nasty hill top finish and the GC boys will come out to play. Captain Canada. (Ryder) is ready to throw it down. Watch this space .

2009 is gonna be a good one for the Argyle.
