Our simple strategy: "Go fast!"

Garmin-Slipstream, 2009 Tour of Qatar stage 1 team time trial Six hours ago we left for our team time trial warm-up. Fours hours ago we celebrated with our first ever team time trial win in Qatar! Our strategy was simple: “Go fast!”

Since I arrived two days ago – yes, two days and 36 hours of travel ago from Silver City, New Mexico – it has been all team time trial practice. As Wiggo says, some of the other teams have been taking a “piss” out of us for doing our job. In reality, we do the extra honed exercises because we have a staff who cross all the T’s and dot all the I’s and sponsors who make sure we have the best of the best in equipment. And there are the fans we have to impress so they like us, ha ha.

Last year, our team was beaten by Quick Step by a mere second; this year we got them by a mere second. Good fun and hard racing! In the end, it was a team effort and the smiles, hugs and high fives afterwards will make this one to remember forever.

More to come, Mike

Strong work guys! It’s always great to hear the little things work out big.

Alright, I’ll bite, why is your argyle on the opposite leg from everyone else’s? :-)

  • Shaggy

Great question. Why is Meatball’s argyle different? Cache what do you think?

  • David Pratt

Not much more to say than “great job”!

  • Sam

Why is Meatball’s Shorts Different Competition?

    Here’s my guesses:

    1. The rider who has to publish these web updates gets to wear the ‘special’ shorts for the day as their reward!

    2. The Pearl Izumi seamstress was so tired after machining all the teams 2009 shorts, she accidentally stitched Mike’s Argyle onto the wrong leg!

Can we make this a compeition to win a team water bottle perhaps JV?

  • Andrea

In typical Meatball fashion, he put his short on backwards? Congrats guy hope this is a trend and we see the same at ATofC.

  • Mike

The argyle changes legs depending on which way you look at it and how the light hits it. It’s a new wave of argyle pattern. Ha, ha.

Nice job meatball. Something must have been in the air – your brother crushed his (legs at his) first TT as well that day.
