On the eve of the Down Under Classic, Whitey and his argyle crew checked in to let all you great fans know that they are ready and raring to get the Garmin-Slipstream show on the road.
DS Matt “Whitey” White: Bring on the Appetizer
“The team has had a great week training down here in Adelaide. Perfect weather and great training rides have given us an ideal lead up the the first Pro Tour event of the year. And tomorrow night we kick off the fun with a little appetizer to blow out the cobwebs. All the boys will race the Down Under Classic 51 km criterium. Our crit specialist CJ Sutton will be our man.”
“I’m very pleased by the condition of all seven riders down here and I’m sure we will leave an impression on this race. Everybody is very relaxed and is motivated to get the season underway. So Garmin fans, stay tuned!”
Chris “CJ” Sutton: Ready to Rumble
“We have done some good training the past few days and are ready to rumble. We kick off with the Down Under Classic tomorrow (Sunday) with its 1.7 km circuit. With just one technical sharp left-hand turn, it will be a fast race. We will do 30 laps covering 51 km.”
“We’re all looking forward to getting out there and having a go. As for the proper Tour start Tuesday, we will take it one day at a time. Let’s get it on!!!”
Timmy Duggan: Pumped to Be Back
“After a loooooong nine month sabbatical, I’m finally starting my first race at the Tour Down Under tomorrow. I can’t tell you how pumped up I am to be back! We’ve spent the last week here in Adelaide getting in a good block of training and course preview. The rolling hills, wind and heat in this area are definitely going to be deciding factors. But with the team we have assembled here, we should have no troubles.”
“Tomorrow, we kick it off with a criterium in downtown Adelaide. We’re looking forward to making our racing debut sprinting out of 250 corners in the space of an hour!”
“PS: Thanks to the fans with the Aussie hot sauce tip. I picked up some peri-peri sauce today and it definitely adds some kick to the hotel buffet!”
