09 Garmin-Slipstream jerseyTechnology Innovations Continue to Help Team Garmin-Slipstream Athletes Break Away from the Pack

January 16, 2009 – Boulder, CO – Pro Tour Team Garmin-Slipstream unveiled its 2009 team kits today. The new team kit highlights title sponsor Garmin’s leadership role, while also bringing attention to Slipstream and its focus on ethical sporting and developing the next generation of American champions.

Designed by Yule Designs and made by the Pearl Izumi Colorado-based Advanced Development Team, the 2009 kits include the ultra aerodynamic time trail speed suit. Second skin fit and strategically located, proprietary fabrics work together to created the fastest speed suit ever produced, providing an aerodynamic advantage for riders. And, the kit wouldn’t be complete without strong argyle elements, including orange shoulders and an orange-dominated Giro helmet – which will be easy to spot in the pro peloton.

“We constantly uncover the best technology and work with the best sponsors to give our athletes the competitive advantage,” said Jonathan Vaughters, CEO director sportif of Team Garmin-Slipstream. “Our unique partnership with Pearl Izumi ensures that our guys are training and racing with the best materials available. And our signature argyle ensures that they stand out from the pack.”

Pearl Izumi works exclusively with Team Garmin-Slipstream on all aspects of team kits, from shorts to jerseys to speed suits, which are custom-made for each athlete and hand-sewn in the team’s home state of Colorado.

“The beauty of our partnership with Team Garmin-Slipstream is that they share our passion for creating products that maximize the performance of their athletes and provide a competitive advantage,” said Cache Mundy, Vice President of Marketing at Pearl Izumi. “Their quest for the best pushes us to be constantly innovating. Together with the team, we look forward to a great 2009 season and some of the fastest time trails ever witnessed.”

Despite the change in design of the 2009 kits, Chipotle remains a valuable and significant sponsor of Team Garmin-Slipstream. According to Vaughters, “we are still powered by Chipotle burritos, as we always have been. Chipotle is our secret training weapon.”

And they can be purchased where? Would like to show support during the Tour of California.

glad to see the orange back in again! Easy to find in the peloton!

  • Kirk Whitmer

I’m glad to see that the orange and aryle are again more prominently featured in the jersey. Last year’s “Garmin” jersey, as unveiled at the Tour, was a bit too neutral for my taste. So now any doubts are gone. I will be buying the 2009 Garmin-Slipstream jersey, to join my 2008 Slipstream-Chipotle one. One question: There is unfortunately no view of the back. Is the burrito still safely tucked in the back pocket?

  • Argyle Army

Fantastic. I like it much better with the orange and arglyes. OK, when we we be able to order one?

How and where does one purchase Edge 705 Team Garmin Bundle 010-00555-60 and exactly what does it incllude in the bundle. Thanks

  • Mathew

So will these jerseys be available for sale to the public?

  • Julie

Excellent! There are some fugly kits out there this year, so glad to see Garmin looking great and stronger argyle again!

Argyle Army and David – sadly i don’t think garmin are as efficient as they should be with merchandising. here in england the soccer teams make the new kits available on the day they’re announced. Last season Slipstream’s kit was announced at the presentation in boulder and i eventually picked up one about a month after the giro. likewise the garmin kit only became available on the mainstream in england during september. so i suggest you do as I am and start saving now so you can get it in april.

  • Jeff

    I want one. Now.

  • Erik

I hope these will be made for public, I couldn’t get my hands on the Late-08 ones.

  • Chris

Unless they’ve changed their minds Pearl Izumi won’t be coming out with a complete kit – only jersey and shorts and maybe arm warmers and socks. I emailed them a few weeks back inquiring about what they would be offering.

As for last year, apparently with the original kits for sale a sponsor logo was left off and noticed at the last minute.

Personally I’d love to be able to get a vest in my size (XL) along with the jersey & shorts.

  • slipstream e-commerce

    Hello Argyle fans!

Just writing a quick message from the office here in Boulder, Colorado to let you know that WE WILL be selling this team jersey and bib short on our soon to be launch e-commerce store.

Unfortunately we won’t have ANY jerseys to sell until early March 2009. From what I understand that is the earliest any will be available to consumer markets.

Please keep your eyes open for our new store, we will have some cool 09 team swag for sale very soon!

  • Marcus Tan – Melbourne, Australia

the new kit looks great! saw it in action in the Tour Down Under. Will the the new e-commerce site ship products internationally?
can’t wait to my hands on a set!

  • Jeffrey

This ecommerce site has been in the works for how long??? I’ve heard “very soon” for months…

  • Chris

And how about offering up a vest and hat too? I can’t be the only person who’d buy one. Why not make them web exclusive items through the team site?

  • David

I agree with most of you, I am glad to see the Argyle back to its old prominent self however, I think it looks a little old fashion. They could have done a better job with some of the color scheme.

  • mike

please let me know when the items are available for purchase, as an avid fan of the team & owner of felt bicycles this would be awesome

    thanks,

    mike

  • jtradio

PLEASE make the kit available (incl vest, hat, and cap), and to CANADIANS as well!!! Not only do we have Ryder Hesjedal, but now also Christian Meier and SVEIN TUFT (HUGE Tuft fan)!!!

We’re asking you to LET us support you, flaunt the sponsors, the clean sport of cycling, and our Canadian boys!

  • Penny

Can you please please please make the kit for women too? Including the bibs? (For some reason women’s bibs are incredibly scarce, but we want them too!)

  • Beth

I’d like to request that the women’s gear have some non pink and flowery options. And, I vote for women’s bibs too!

  • mike miller

On Twitter today JV said we were all blowing up the eStore, I would like to blow it up but cannot find it anywhere?

    Anyone have a web address?

  • http://7gc.net/onefatman fatman

@Mike Miller you can find the e-store here. It looks like the link is in the center black colum with “join us in 2009″

  • John

I’m watching the Tour of California, and I don’t see argyle leg/arm warmers or argyle rain jackets. PLEASE tell me those are not gone from the kit!

  • phil perard

Kudos to Garmin-Transitions for assembling the most powerful U.S. based cycling team. Led by a trio of talented Americans : Christian Vande Velde a top G.C rider, David Zabriskie a world class time trial ace and Tyler Farrar a legitmite threat at any sprint finish will surely make 2010 a great year.
