Colby Pearce (left) reports on his adventures with partner Daniel Holloway (right) in the Dortmunder 6-Day Race in Germany:
Last night (day 3) was a late night and we made it to bed by 3 am. Today, because it’s Sunday, we had an early race schedule, so we are a bit sleep deprived but happy. It’s family day so the kids come to watch the racing. The total crowd is at about 10,000. Also because it’s the fourth day, it’s a “potato race” which means a more relaxed day of racing before the last two nights, which are usually “au bloc” or flat out.
Last night, there were two chases – the first of 222 laps (on a 200 meter track) and the second 133 laps. We managed to take 5 laps in the two chases and move up to 9th in the overall classification.
We are learning a ton every day and after racing six nights on a narrow track with 14 teams, a hairy field sprint on the road will feel as though it’s in slow motion. I can’t wait to see Holloway on the road next year!
Also props to Americans Guy East and Austin Carroll, who won the UIV (for riders under 23) 3-day race which finished here today. Nice job guys!!!
More updates to follow.
Ciao!
