Yesterday started as planned with lots of attacks! A big group of local guys got away in the first 30 km and this was not according to Team American Beef’s plan. So they rode hard, not to bring it back, but to bridge to the break. This made for a very fast race and we did 60 km in the first 75 minutes!
We had planned on covering the major teams - Tecos and American Beef - and it was a success for us, alternating guys and getting in all the moves! Everyone was feeling good and the race was typical all the way to the finish. Caleb had a bit of a mishap with a flat tire with 9 km to go but he made a huge effort and got back in the race before the finish. Props to him for being strong. It wasn’t easy in the field much less trying to catch it from behind.
All in all a good start for the Garmin boys. Today’s hilly stage 2 will suit us better and we are looking forward to it.
