Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O worked to fight off relentless attacks from Team Columbia today on a crazy fast stage from Lebanon to Rolla, Missouri. Race leader Christian Vande Velde (above left and below) kept the Argyle Armada moving, eventually joining a breakaway of 20 along with Tom Danielson (above right) in the final run in to Rolla for the three tight finishing circuits. Christian attacked on the final circuit and finished third in the field sprint and fourth overall. Tom Danielson finished 13th and moved to 5th in the overall classification.
The day of hard rolling hills and intense attacks took its toll on the weary peloton. The main pack finished more than 18 minutes behind the front group, creating large time gaps in the GC. New sprint leader Eric Baumann of Sparkasse said that it was the fastest race he had done all year. The average speed for the 169 km race was 47 kph.

Wow, killer race guys — go VdV!
Now on to another important topic — namely, the disappearance of Cozza’s ’stache. Was it sacrificed for aero’s sake?
Good grief, that was a fast and crazy day of racing. Good job VDV and Tommy Gun jumping into that move that created the split. Too bad Tommmy didn’t have this form earlier this year. At least with the big time gaps Cozza or The Pate can jump in and cover some of the moves in the coming days.
great stage, getting into that break was so important. you guys ran an ice cold stage, and the only “slip up” (not even a slip up) you guys reeled in an took over on. Nice.
makin’ it happen
millertime
P.S. Nothing says business like a stache
Good job Tommy D in looking after your team leader! Solid ride.
Tommy Rules!
You go TD!!
By the way, what Felt is VDV riding? The geometry on the top tube looks different from the F1.
What a slugfest! Great fight today by VDV and Tom D to defend the lead and take fifth place. Also, great work by the team nailing back the breaks early on today. Man, I hope tomorrow is a day for the break by some of the 18″ guys.
Wow what a day! You guys did an awesome job covering EVERYTHING that was thrown at you, and boy was it thrown. Keep iy up guys!
what an exciting race! great job especially by Christian and Tom!!
