Weathering today’s spectacularly hard day of wet, windy racing, Team Garmin-Chipotle made all the moves, including the final jump by Dan Martin to take stage 3 of the Tour of Britain. The flat finish and winds kept young Dan from bridging to Emilien Berges to contest the final sprint, but he still managed to hang on for 4th on the stage.
Earlier in the stage, David Millar drove an early breakaway, jumping off the front on the descent off the day’s first KOM. Though the group included too many favorites to stay off and were eventually brought home.

Keep working on em’!! Good luck in the hills tomorrow!!
This must have been one of those days when a pro bike rider *really* knows that he’s earned his salary. The weather was awful and I know some of those hills, it’s tough cycling country with a profile like a heavily rumpled duvet. Didn’t stop me and a few chums riding out to catch the race and shout encouragement. Good luck for the rest of the race.
Well done Dan. You were steaming over the top of the final climb. I watched on the false flat after the KOM and the three with you were hanging on for grim death!
I stood in the pouring rain in Chard and was really touched that the guys took time out to sign autographs and pose for photos. Then, along with a couple of mates cycled up to the last KoM and stood on the finish line. That climb was a beast so what it must be like after 90 miles I can’t begin to imagine.
Another heart felt “Well Done!”
