The Italians clearly had the hometown advantage, taking gold and silver at the 260.25 km World Road Championships in Varese, Italy today. Steven Cozza (above) was the highest placed Argyle finisher in 23rd, just 1′40″ behind Alessandro Ballan, who won solo.

The second stage of the day and the final stage of the Tour, stage 5 is 108.2 km long and ends in Poitiers with three laps of an intense finishing circuit.
Stage 5 is scheduled to start at 14:10 and finish at 16:37.
