Utah stage 4: Caldwell 2nd on Snowbird, still leads GC; Stetina increases Best Young lead

Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O, Tour of Utah stage 4 Riding on the shoulders of giants, Blake Caldwell dug in and delivered for Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O by finishing second on yesterday’s epic stage that included 15,000 feet of climbing and a mountain top finish on Snowbird. Every member of the team worked to protect their leader and put their precious yellow jersey in perfect position for the final climb on Snowbird. (Caldwell won on Snowbird in 2006). Though Blake led initially on the climb, Jeff Louder caught then attacked him with 500 meters to go, ultimately creating a gap of 13″.

Blake Caldwell, Tour of Utah stage 4 Peter Stetina also rode a strong race finishing 8th on Snowbird and further increased his lead in the Best Young Rider classification on teammate Tom Peterson.

For a complete play-by-play of stage 4, check out this VeloNews recap.

The Tour of Utah will come down to today’s 12-mile individual time trial. Louder is a stronger time trialist but Blake has the power of the yellow riding on his shoulders. If you are in the area, get out to Miller Motorsports Park and cheer on the Argyle!
