With a lead-out from Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O, Julian Dean again found himself near the front of today’s final massive sprint. Our favorite “Kiwi Guy” finished 9th in the fast final with Martijn Maaskant close behind in 17th. There were no major changes to GC.
Tomorrow the race heads into Provence on its way to the Hautes-Alpes. It will be the last transition stage before the race returns to the mountains on Sunday where the riders will face the hors categorie Col Agnel before dropping into Italy.
**Stay tuned for photo fun!**

Way to go guys!! Nice work Juz!! Two 10 ten finishes!!! Good luck tomorrow heading back to the mountains!
Julian, you are massive! You all are!
well done again julz looking strong. Hang in over the hills and be strong in paris
Great stuff Julian! Awesome to see that Kiwi jersey up towards the front. Lets hope the team can get you up, you have a bit of luck & kick some butt with a final burst ay! Love watching it on sky sport back here in NZ, one of many doing the graveyard shift at night throughout the country…worth it though! Good luck, give it heaps!
With all these top 10s for Dean, maybe a green jersey is in his future for the 2009 TdF.
WOW Julz once again you are wearing that silver fern with good old fashion kiwi pride and guts, you are a true inspiration to us all back here in NZ.Seeing you up there mixing it with the best makes the grave yard shift so very worth it.Keep up the awsome work, think Paris and those mountains will be a breeze.loads of hugs and giggles tam.jas.aj and rj
I am so excited.. I am heading out to Paris on the 25th to catch the last day, and to see the team ride into Paris. I hope to see VDV up on the podium.
Fantastic Julz! Lets hope you can get a great leadout at some stage and put the frighteners up Cavendish! Team is hanging in there well and CVV is still in a great position. Keep it rolling…
Brilliant ride Julz, We yelled and cheered and woke the neighbors! We are determined to one day make it to France to watch the TDF. We are feeling very proud Kiwi’s all over the world.
Go Julian, go Team Garmin Chipottle.
your going good julz just a matter of time. hang in there.
You little rippa, You are making us very proud back here in NZ. I havent riden in 12 month after knee surgery but you got my blood running and i’m off now to brave the ellements .Keep up the great work !! You where that fern well!!
Every night I sit up until all hours watching the Tour, it normally finishes around 3.45am here in NZ. All the cyclists are amazing athletes. But of course my favorite is Julian Dean - Go Kiwi!!! It has been so awesome to see you up the front in the last two sprints and as for coming in the top ten, not once but twice - what can I say? Except GO KIwi, GO KIWI!!!!!!
I must admit the Garmin/Chipotle/Slipstream crew have me glued to this tour. Danny Pate is still my man out there in the field and would love to see him take a stage win like he did in the Tour of Missouri.
Wouldn’t it be cool for Garmin to win both the Yellow and Lantern Rouge? It’s possible!!!!
Great to see Danny Pate go for it on Prato Nevoso. Also great to see Vandevelde riding with the world’s best; he’s grown into a world-class rider. However, so disappointing to see his contentment to simply follow riders up the mtn w/o laying it all on the line. His interview showed he was flippantly ecstatic to be in the top 10. Agree that top 10 is amazing, but his cavalier interview made me sick to my stomach.
He obviously had something left at the finish. Why not take a chance at greatness and make a move earlier and kill the 38-second gap for yellow, or at least 10 seconds of it. He didn’t even TRY! If this was a strategic decision to wait til later Alps stages, fine. But say so in the interview, instead of beating your chest.
I’d like to see a little more heart and guts — boy we miss Lance! So hard to get behind this guy after seeing his happy-go-lucky-I-am-great interview. Where is the FIRE for the WIN!? (As an aging ex-competitive athlet, I wish Vandevelde could see the Golden Ring he has so closely within his grasp, and leave everything on the road so when he’s my age he has no regrets.)
