Team Garmin-Chipotle riders are recording the stages of the 2008 Tour de France with their Garmin Edge 705s for all you data hungry fans out there. Each day, we will feature one rider and his data.
Stage 11 is a medium mountain stage through the Hautes-Pyrénées. It includes two category 3 and one category 1 climb over the Col de Portel (1432m). A new climb for the Tour de France, the Col de Portel is 12.6 km long with an average grade of 6.8%.
On this easy transition stage, Danny Pate and the rest of the Argyle Armada rode support for team leader Christian Vande Velde and protected his position as third in the overall classification. Danny stuck with Christian for the first half of the 167.5 km stage where the team’s climbers then took over to escort Christian to the finish.
