Tour de France stage 7: Brioude>Aurillac with Vande Velde

Overview:
Team Garmin-Chipotle riders are recording the stages of the 2008 Tour de France with their Garmin Edge 705s for all you data hungry fans out there. Each day, we will feature one rider and his data.

The race moves further into the Massif Central and today’s stage includes no less than five categorized climbs. The two category 2 climbs fall in quick succession and include the 6.5 km Col d’Entremont with a 4.7% average grade and the 7.8 km Le Puy Mary with a 6.2% average grade. The course hits the final climb, the 822 meter Cote de Saint-Jean-de-Donne, with 10 km to go and wraps up with a fast descent and flat run-in to Aurillac.

After having Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O splinter the peloton through unrelenting attacks, Christian Vande Velde hangs with the front group and finishes 9th on one of the hardest stages yet. He holds on to his 4th place in the overall classification.
