Finishing third and 18″ off stage winner and new yellow jersey Stefan Schumacher, David Millar moved (right) up to third overall and just 12″ back. Joining David in a top ten performance today was Christian Vande Velde, whose 8th place finish moved him up to 6th in the general classification.
Former U23 world time trial champ Danny Pate was the first member of Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O to register the time to beat. Starting 57th, Danny finished in 36′54″ and held onto his lead for a little more than an hour when Frenchman Sylvain Chavanel bettered Danny’s time by one second. Danny finished a respectable 14th today.
Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O’s collectively strong performance today allowed them to increase their time gap to 1′44″ in the overall team classification.
Stay tuned for photos!

Good job guys! You’re making us proud!
I know you were hoping for the win, but great result for David, Christian, and Danny, good job guys! Christian in great position in relation to the GC guys, and David right there in the hunt for the rest of the week! Keep on truckin’!
Great work today guys!! Especially Danny!!! Good luck tomorrow!! Keep on the Argyle rollin’!!
Awesome ITT results today. Great job DM and CVV! Overall standings are just as impressive. Let’s get to some mountain stages and see CVV climb in the GC rank.
Hometown Lemont fans are cheering you on!!!!
Excellent results today, especially David, Christian and Danny. Still #1 team in the GC.
Great job in the stage today. Hope that JV doesn’t get into trouble for the little ‘oops’ on live TV.
Awesome! What a day! Although, Danny was U23 World TT Champion and not in the juniors.
A great time trial. Way to step up, guys!
Awesome job today. I really enjoy the team centric approach to your strategy and it really shows in Garmin-Chipotle’s overall Team GC 1st place standing.
Keep up the great work.
It was such an exciting stage that I almost forgot to breathe while David was on the course! Excellent results today, team. What a kick to be in front of Columbia and CSC, and by such nice margins, too!
SATCH!
Why was Ryder not in his national champion’s jersey?
LOVE you guys! 3 in the top 15 for the ITT. You are insane. Really excited about the #1 team. Keep it up!
Because as of Jul 4, Svein Tuft of Team Symmetrics is the new TT Champ. Ryder can’t be in two places at once. Which is too bad. We’ll miss seeing Ryder in his red and argyle. Congrats to the entire team it was a great day such strong results from Team Argyle. JV had me laughing as he dropped the F-bomb on international TV! Robbie’s reaction was priceless!
Ryder is no longer the Canadian Champion. As of Jul 4
Svein Tuft of Team Symmetrics is the new TT Champ. Can’t be in two places at once. Too bad as we’ll miss seeing Ryder in his red and argyle. Thrilling day of TT for Team Garmin. Congrats to the entire team. I was laughing at JV’s use of the F-bomb on International TV. Laughing even more at Ventura’s reaction.
DM in yellow tomorrow ???……….. its a long one to hold a break away.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. I think JV expressed what we were all thinking as Millar was cranking it out. The Tour is back!
Great Job Guys !!!
JV Great Quote in the team car
It keeps it real !! The anxiousness and tension in the team car was palpable !! I was on the edge of my seat !! Not that I don’t enjoy listening to Phil and Paul but this added such a real element to the race…
JV please more team car time !! It made the difference for me watching today … Robbie Nice job as well …
Keep up the good work guys. It keeps getting better and better!
The determination on David Millar’s face was awesome. His technique was superb. He also did amazingly well to keep his head during the pushing and shoving at the ITV4 interview.
Amazing ride Millar. I wish you all the best for tomorrow. Please, please, please Team Garmin, give it your all for him tomorrow. I know you are all probably feeling empty after todays efforts, but 12 seconds, guys just 12 seconds tomorrow and you will all blow up the Tour!
For David too, it will surely complete his deliverance.
Great to have a team that I can really get behind and cheer for in this year’s tour. Will’s ride was inspiring on stage 3. Also seeing Millar and Vande Velde in the time trial was great. Now we want to see one of them in yellow after stage 6!
I love the tour and find it great that there is a US based team with such great riders and a director where I know nobody is doping.
I rather see you guys get 2nd and 3rds cleanly as opposed to winning and getting busted for doping. I just love the sport and Garmin/Chipotle/H3O is now my team.
Fantastic race so far, you will no doubt make others believers in the Argyle.
Ah $%#@, such colorful language too. Way to to keep it real!
Great job so far, looking forward to whats in store the next 2.5 weeks has in store (incluing more time in the DS car!).
Keep up the great work guys, JV will need the winnings for the FCC fine.
Thanks for making this TdF fun…
Someone needs to ask JV about his f-bomb on Versus. What happened to race clean? heh heh.
Great day today. Great showing so far. Who says an American team can’t do the Giro-Tour double?
JV,
Love the F-bomb. I thought Robbie was going to crap his pants.
Go GARMIN
That was awesome! I would like to see more cameras in the car.
You guys ROCK!!! Love you!!!
Amazing job today and this week. Way to make America proud and prove that clean riding works! Thank you!
This TT is the reason we all believe in the Argyle.
Keep up the good work and crush it up the Super-Besse
They showed nary a clip of CVV on Versus during the live broadcast, which was really frustrating. Seeing Millar tear it up was awesome, though. They couldn’t get enough of him.
I think that Christian is going to really sneak up on people here before too long. The guy is riding well and being smart by staying near the front. Hopefully he can ride even better in the mountains now that he has the greenlight to focus on GC.
Too bad the effort didn’t result in the win, but what a phenominal ride by David to finish third, and a split second from second place.
David, it looked like you didn’t put a foot wrong all the way round David and although you didn’t get “the jersey” there is still Stage 6!!!
Good rides too by Christian & Danny. Keep on rolling guys, can’t fault the effort the whole team is making in getting the name out there for all the world to see.
Good to see you guys working together. I know you guys are thirsty. Give it all you got. I’ll be waiting with the horse in Urus.
Great TT ride today with 3 guys in the top 15. The team has been fantastic. Will’s ride yesterday was amazing. Leading the team classification is great.
Loved the F bomb that JV dropped on Versus. Also, Maggy’s daily diaries with Neal Rogers are fun to watch.
Great job all. Good luck in the hunt for yellow. Would love to see a yellow argyle jersey.
I am eating a burrito a day until I leave for France next week. Can’t wait for Alpe d’Huez.
JV, please send T-bag on the attack in the mountains. Thanks
Je suis heureuse d’avoir été là pour te supporter derrière mon écran car tu le mérites. Tu es excellent. Go David!
Dave: Niiiice Wheels! Wtf?!
Great ride fella
Awesome performance so far, living in Perpignan but will catch the action near Narbonne & wave the kiwi flag for Julian & the Garmin Team..Kia Kaha!!!!
