Despite being nervous and windy, today’s short 164.5 km stage delivered few surprises. The final was a fast uphill mass sprint and most of the Garmin-Chipotle crew finished in on the same time as stage winner Thor Hushovd. Young Martijn Maaskant was the highest finisher at 14th and David Millar’s finish moved him up to 7th in the overall standings.
Tour debutant Danny Pate (above) kicked the day off in style by being the first rider to attack. Going off from the gun, he was quickly joined by a handful of others. But the break was short lived as Bouygues Telecom was having none of it.
Team Garmin-Chipotle H3O as a group is ranked fourth in the overall team classification. Stage 2 photos from our brilliant photographers Graham Watson and Casey Gibson coming soon!

Way to go guys!!! Lets keep it up till we can blow it up on Tuesday! Keep the Argyle Armada rolling on!!! Just curious, what happened to Julz?
From the ending times, it looks like Julian may have been involved in a crash. How is he? Otherwise, great ride!
WAY To Go!!!!! Great job today. You make us proud, we support you all the way. Show them you dont need drugs to perform like true champions.
Nice work, boys!
Hey guys great job today! Just a quick question, how come julz is wearing his national colours but the other national champs dont have national team kits? Go Argyle!
Way to go. Garmin-Chipotle all the way. Viva la tour.
Way to go guys. Keep attaching Danny. Would love to see you in a break that makes it.
re: nat team kits - Dean is the only remaining National Champion. Am I mistaken when I say that no Garmin riders took their nation’s road races in the past two weeks?
Also, as much as I like the new kits, they’re really hard to spot in the peloton. I’m watching the Sputnik feed online and it is almost impossible to find you guys from the air or the moto.
Loving the coverage on Sky Sports here in New Zealand, only bummer is it is really hard to pick the team colours up as sooooo many teams have blue as a primary colour. Otherwise great results so far. Looking for a huge ride in tomorrows sprint so fingers crossed for Julz and Maggie. Great work from David and Matijn today and fantastic to see Danny off like a rocket and Get Garmin some TV coverage.
good to see Garmin riders up in the breaks, trying to get close in the sprints.
