Martijn Maaskant (left) and Tyler Farrar (right) take a moment to pose with Alison before the start of the CSC Invitational.
By Alison Moore, winner of the June Avid Argyle essay contest
I am relatively new to following professional cycling but my dad travels from Atlanta, Georgia to California each year to volunteer at the Amgen Tour of California as well as volunteer at the Tour de Georgia each year. As a result, I have started watching these races on TV and found myself rooting for the “argyle guys”. As soon as I saw the jerseys I was hooked. Since then, I have read about the racers from afar.
But on June 8th, I had great fortune to see the CSC Invitational. The first team I looked for was Slipstream and imagine my happiness when I saw Tyler Farrar! I was so in shock that all I could get out was “can I have a picture?” and “thanks”. To me it was like meeting the President. I am thankful that the cyclists at the CSC were so open to meeting happy fans like myself. That to me says a lot about the Slipstream name and its athletes. I am looking forward to watching and rooting for Slipstream during the Tour de France.
