“Destiny Won’t Find You”…this been my mantra of the year. Despite setbacks from my horrific crash in the Vuelta in September, I’ve never stopped believing that I can win the Tour. Well, it doesn’t look like I’ll have the opportunity this year. I’m sitting here on a plane back to Boulder to race in the USA for the remainder of the summer. My team has chosen the Tour squad based on results, and because of a herniated disc that kept me out of some races in the early season, my schedule has been tweaked with the intention of doing everything possible to keep me healthy for the TDF.
It wasn’t until a small race in Portugal that I realized that the goal I thought I was working towards, the Tour de France, was now in jeopardy. My progress was not enough for my team and I was told needed to show something quickly in Route du Sud or I wasn’t going.

Go, Tommy D, Go. The argyle armada is on your side and hopes for the best. Crush the US scene like it was 2003!
Sorry the form didn’t come to you when you needed it most. Here’s hoping for a great summer state side. Winning Cascade will lessen the sting a bit don’t you think?
A true test of a man’s character is how he handles adversity. That you are willing to provide updates now speaks volumes.
My hope is you will look back on this time as the beginning of greater things.
We are pulling for you.
TD-
Tough break with the TDF but focusing the disappointment in you racing and training will be all the difference.
Looking forward to following a strong second half for you!
Good luck!
The good news is that some other team or some other rider, under the same intense pressure to ride well or go home, would have skirted the rules and done whatever he needed to in order to make the team. The fact that Tom didn’t make the TDF squad is more of a testament than if he had “suddenly” found the form and made the team.
Thats shows the Slipstream concept works.
Go get ‘em Tommy! I’ll be pulling for you in every one of the races.
Hang in there and we’ll be cheering you on in the US and at next year’s tour!
TD,
I’m looking forward to the 2009 Tour de France where there will be 2 riders with something to prove: Danielson and Contador. At least you’ll bring the maillot jaune back to the States having taken it off the back of the true defending champion.
I’m pulling for you. Train hard and finish strong.

Your fans know you’re a courageous guy, Tom. Thanks for keeping us up to date with your thoughts and the true story. I’m sure no one is more disappointed than you, but remember we love ya here in CO and look forward to your future, of which there is plenty in store. I’ll be cheering you on in the Colorado Stage race, so keep your head up, keep bustin your a%$, and good karma will find you my man. Cheers.
Hang in there man and keep working. Things will come around for you, and i can’t wait to see you race tour of missouri!
Chris
The best cure for disappointment are wins and podium finishes in the remaining 6 races–five here in the US. You are the only true Grand Tour GC rider on Garmin, so you need to get healthy and then ride yourself to success and show one and all the talent you have. Good luck, and prove in both what’s left of 2008 and then 2009 that you belong at the TdeF!!!
Tom,
Since riding with you at BV last year you have been a huge inspiration to me! Take the opportunity as it may be and go forward, show what you have and as always you will succeed! We here in Colorado will be with you all the way!
John
Chaos Cycling Club is always pulling for ya! Will be looking for you at the Colorado Stage Race and maybe with any luck we can buy you a brew in Salida if you decide to contest the next stage of the Tour of Colorado!
much luck Tommy Gun!
TD,
Keep the faith, brother. We’re all pulling for you and we know that you’re working hard, so good things will come. Rock em in these next races.
Tom,
Was looking forward to watching you ride the Tour. However, watching you drop everyone on Paris Mountain and slipping on on US Champ. jersey will be pretty sweet. All the best
You and all your team mates represent the best in cycling! Ride strong. By the way, if you and a few of your team mates are off the weekend of September 6th, think about hoping over to CA for the Best Buddies Challenge at Hearst Castle, a charity ride from Carmel to San Simeon that supports special needs individuals and the intellectually challenge. There are going to be a lot of pros helping the cause from CSC and several other teams.
I feel for your, man. And I am sure by now you are already feeling better because you love getting on your bike every day. Focus on that, bro. Train hard. Listen to your body. Use this setback to your advantage…
Here’s a quote I pull out of my wallet often (Gerald Barzan): “As lousy as things are now, tomorrow they will be somebody’s good old days.”
Kick a– in the States and see ya next year at the Tour!!!
Tommy D, keep your chin up. You have more fans than you know. I hope you do well in the remaining races, and look forward to seeing you compete in the TDF09.

Hang in there and show them what you’re really made of, Tom. We’ve watched you shred the Tour de Georgia the past couple of years and we were really looking forward to doing likewise in the TdF. Here’s to next year- Good luck, God Bless, and Godspeed!
Tom & Daniel B.
Tom — Crush ‘em on the US circuit. You have more TDFs in your future and your team will be ready to build a tour around you
