Giro stage 16Though short, the 12.85 km individual time trial goes straight up for 1080 meters of climbing. This mean little climb has an average grade of 7.9%.

Though the first part of the climbs starts at a gentle 2.6% grade, the second half of the climb includes grades of 20% and more. And to make things even more interesting, the last 5.25 km of the climb are on gravel roads (”sterrato”) that top out at 24% grade - - aaiiee!

The last time the Giro included this climb in 2006, however, the organizers had to cut the climb short at the Passo di Furcia due to snow. So we’ll see if the boys get lucky this year.

The first rider is scheduled to start at 10:00 and the last rider will finish around 17:15.
