Race report from DS Johnny Weltz
Today anything was possible. With a heavy rain, a technically hard circuit, a short 106 stage and a close overall classification, it was still unsure who would take the overall win. So, like every other start, it was very fast. We had some good chances to go for a stage win and move up in GC.
It went very well from the beginning with Dan out in a strong five-man breakaway. But Dan’s break was caught after 35 km. Then Trent jumped in on a break of 16 riders. They quickly had a one-minute gap on the peloton. There were several riders who were close on GC in the breakaway, so Trent was hoping to benefit from their efforts as he focused on the stage win. But a raincoat in the rear derailleur forced him out of the break in the final!!!
The break held and the GC was turned upside down. Dan moved up some spots on the overall. And Tom Peterson fought the good fight all the way through the stage, even with a very beat up body from yesterday.
