Lucas Euser, Valencia stage 4 Race report from DS Johnny Weltz

The stage started out at a crazy, fast tempo. As there were only a few seconds difference between the top ten, and with bonus seconds, everybody had plans to cover every little second. So, the first two hours were flat out and nobody could get away!

Lucas was the first man to attempt a breakaway. And even though he was far down on the classification, the peloton had other plans and quickly chased him down. Then finally, French cyclist Sylvain Chavanel got a small gap and Lucas and another rider tried to bridge up to him. But the bunch wouldn’t allow that either!

So Chavanel was out front solo when the rest of the peloton stopped for a piss. He then took off and quickly had an 8-minute gap. The race was pretty much over over then as nobody really did much to bring it back. So he won with almost 3 minutes on the peloton, though the overall classification stayed pretty much the same.
