The calm before the start
13:35 Heading out to pre-ride the 23.6 km course. Still 25 min ahead of schedule. Traffic and crowds are insane. It’ll take us a little more time to get to start just trying to move through all the crowds.
14:00 The calm before the storm. A small moment of peace for the staff as the riders pre-ride the course. The trainers are set up with the riders spare time trial bikes (above) for the warm up while the guys ride course on their actual time trial race bikes. Today we are sporting new CycleOps trainers as well. Nice.

And what a storm. Just brilliant. What a start for the first Grand Tour.
I was supposed to be out on my bike but caught the slipstream time…. After that I had to stay for the finish – did cut the grass with thunder rolling in the background.
Applause from the Gods for Slipstream seems appropriate. A brilliant win for the first stage to the Giro.
