Dunkerque day 5: Meatball in the mix

Here in Dunkerque we were all so happy to hear the news of the team’s victory in Italy. Simply amazing! Just after the we finished the race, we heard the news that they were leading with only a couple teams remaining. It was an anxious ride back to the hotel awaiting the final results.

OK, 4 Jours de Dunkerque Straight out of the gates, Mike Friedman flew the Slipstream flag at the front and was making sure that if a group was going to get away, it’d have him in it. After a couple short-lived breakaway attempts, which he was part of, the main break of the day went with him in it. It wasn’t until two laps to go that they were finally reeled in as the peloton splintered on the last few ascents up “Cap Blanc Nez,” only to come back together right before the next time up.

On the penultimate climb, Christophe hung with the lead group to contest the final sprint. By far the hardest day yet. There were a lot of tired faces out there. Still one day left, and with the short distance of 120 km, the GC race has largely been decided. But we’ll be looking for opportunities for a result on the stage. The morale is especially high tonight!
