Race report from DS Johnny Weltz
The 4 Days of Dunkerque opened today without the expected mass sprint finish. It all started out extremely fast and looked to be a great race. A breakaway with two French riders went early and Jason Donald was part of a chase effort. Unfortunately, he crashed in a corner (though was not injured and finished) and after that, the peloton basically sat up.
The breakaway’s lead got up to more than 12 minutes before the peloton reacted. Even then, the chase was half-hearted and the two escapees finished with more than 2′30″ on the peloton.
